Foran High wrestling roundup

The Foran High wrestling team traveled to Madison on Jan. 24, and dropped a 36-32 decision to Daniel Hand.

Coach Frank Peter’s Lions are now 13-4 overall and 1-1 in the SCC A Division.

Zach Hubler opened the match with a 16-5 major decision in the 195-pound bout.

Ben Croll followed with a 4-2 victory at 220 and Foran’s heavyweight Luke Edmondson posted a 26-second fall to build a 13-0 lead.

Daniel Hand won 6-of-7 matches to take control at 36-17.

During this stretch the Lions’ Jacob Pouliot had a 13-2 major decision at 113 pounds.

Foran closed the match strong, with Beau Garcia (2:40 pin at 160), Noah Hubler (7-0 decision at 170) and Cristian Woodford (4:36 pin at 182) winning out.

East Haven Duals

Foran defeated East Haven (72-6), Immaculate/Joel Barlow (49-24) and Cheshire (60-18) at the East Haven Duals on Jan. 11.

Winning on the mat versus the Easties were Jubilee Witte (126 pounds) with a 13-3 major decision, Ray DeWitt (145) with a 20-8 major decision, Rich Kratzer (152) with a 47-second pin, Noah Hubler (170) with a pin in 5:42, Zach Hubler 12-4 major decision, Woodford (195) with a 1:46 pin), Croll (220) a 54-second pin) and Gino Esposito (106) with a 17-0 technical fall.

Against Immaculate/Barlow, Elijah Moretti (120) won by 3:41 fall, Witte by 1:14 fall, Patrick Fitzgerald (138) by 47-second fall, Kratzer by 11-4 decision, Garcia by 1:59 fall, Zach Hubler by 1:59 fall, Croll by 6-0 decision and Edmondson by 1:59 fall.

In the Cheshire match, J.R. Pellegrino (132) won by pin in 1:11, Fitzgerald by 1:02 fall, Garcia by 1:32 fall, Croll by 54-second pin, Pouliot by 22-second fall and Witte by 47-second pin.

Trumbull Duals

Foran placed fifth at the Trumbull Duals on Jan. 4, defeating Glastonbury (50-21) and Masuk (56-24) and losing to Trumbull High (49-21) and Daniel Hand (36-33).

Posting wins versus Glastonbury were Fitzgerald (1:39 pin), Kratzer (11-3 major decision), Garcia (1:37 pin), Woodford (1:03 pin), Edmondson (3:05 pin and Esposito (12-2 major decision).

In the Masuk match, Fitzgerald (2:27 pin), DeWitt (22-6 tech fall), Garcia (1:59 pin), Woodford (42-second fall), Zach Hubler (5-4 decision), Cross (44-second pin), Esposito (2:34 pin) and Pouliot (24-second pin) were victorious.

Against Trumbull, Garcia won an 8-6 overtime decision, Noah Hubler an 8-6 decision, Edmondson by 3:40 fall, Esposito with a 4-3 decision and Pouliot by 1:39 fall.

Down 21-0 to Daniel Hand, Garcia led a come back by the Lions with a first-period fall in the 160-pound bout.

Woodford (7-4) and Zach Hubler (9-4) followed with decisions before Croll registered another pin in the first period to make it 28-18.

Edmondson was awarded a forfeit to make it a four-point deficit, but the Tigers used another fall to restore its 10-point lead.

Esposito’s pin in 1:02 and Pouliot’s 14-8 decision left it up to the 126-pound match, won by Daniel Hand 3-0.

New Haven

Foran defeated New Haven, 63-18, on Jan. 8.

Witte (1:11 pin), Pellegrino (1:21 pin), Fitzgerald (3:37 pin), Kratzer (12-8 decision), Garcia (2:42 pin), Noah Hubler (2:25 pin), Zach Hubler (1:21 pin), Esposito (1:44 pin), Pouliot (50-second pin) and Moretti (3:00 pin).

Foran will compete in the Hasting Duals on Saturday. The Lions visit Xavier High in Middletown on Tuesday for a key SCC Division I match beginning at 7 p.m.
