Football: Jonathan Law wins, 22-6

The Jonathan Law High football team evened its record at 2-2 on Friday night with a 22-6 Southern Connecticut Conference Tier 3 home win over Creed/Career/Whitney Tech.

After giving up a late first-quarter touchdown to the Howling Wolves' Neal Eley, which covered 76 yards, and allowing 159 yards of offense in the opening 24 minutes, Law's defense shut down its opponent in the second half, yielding just 30 yards.

Trailing 6-0, the Lawmen evened the score at 8:01 of the second quarter when Sheldon Gargano scored from three yards out.

Law added a pair of second-half touchdowns, one on a 4-yard pass completion from quarterback Mitchell Smith to senior Dennis Theis at 6:57 of the third.

Smith closed out the scoring with a 9-yard TD run with 2:38 remaining, also in the third quarter.

Law's defense picked up a safety when the Lawman tackled the Howling Wolves' Tylen King in the end zone.

Smith completed 9 of 23 passes for 142 yards on the windy night, and the Lawmen also picked up 122 yards on the ground, led by Mike Plaskon’s 62 yards.

Law will play host to Wilbur Cross of New Haven next Friday night. The Governors defeated Lyman Hall of Wallingford, 52-7.
