Football: Harding and Bassick to join SCC as Associate Members

Warren G. Harding and Bassick high schools will join the Southern Connecticut Conference as associate members in the sport of football, starting with the 2017 season.

The SCC athletic directors and principals unanimously voted to invite the two Bridgeport-based schools into the league for football earlier this month.

The addition of the two schools brings the SCC’s football-playing schools total to 22.  The league will most likely remain in three-tier format with Harding joining tier two, and Bassick in tier three.  The league is currently in the process of setting up a two-year schedule (2017 and 2018).

“We are very pleased to welcome Harding and Bassick to the SCC,” Commissioner Al Carbone said.  “Football scheduling is getting harder and harder; and any time you can add competitive programs to your league, the better it is for everyone involved.”

Established in 1994, the Southern Connecticut Conference is comprised of 23 high schools and 23,000 students representing 16 towns spread across three counties (New Haven, Fairfield and Middlesex) and representing urban and suburban communities.

Member Schools: Amity Regional, Branford, Career Magnet, Cheshire, East Haven, Fairfield Prep, Joseph A. Foran, Guilford, Hamden, Daniel Hand of Madison, Hillhouse, Jonathan Law, Lauralton Hall, Lyman Hall, Mercy, North Haven, Notre Dame-WH, Sacred Heart Academy, Mark T.
