Eagles defeat Lion in girls lacrosse match

Led by five goals from Olivia Keator and three goals from fellow freshman Jillian Parsons, the Jonathan Law girls lacrosse team defeated city rival Foran High, 12-11, on Thursday night in the first-ever varsity meeting between the two schools. The two teams met at the Vito DeVito Sports Complex at Foran.

Keator had the distinction of scoring the first goal of the game, which came just 52 seconds into the contest.

With three goals in the game’s final minutes, the Lions closed the gap to 12-11, but Foran missed several scoring chances within the closing two minutes in an effort to gain a tie.

The Lions, who out-shot the Eagles, 23-19 for the game and 15-10 in the second half, battled Law to a 5-5 stand-off over the first 25 minutes.

Consecutive goals by Foran’s Julia Astram, Monica Malangone and Kiara Kanlong cut the margin from four goals to one late in the game.

All three players had two goals each for Foran, whose record dipped to 2-4.

Andria Torres added two goals for Law, now 5-2, and Parsons had two assists to go along with her three scores.

Melissa Chodziutko made eight saves for Law while her counter-part, Shea Phelan, turned aside six.

Foran had defeated Law three times while the two teams played on the junior varsity level in 2014.
