Crusaders win Invitational
The Lauralton Hall cross country team showed fierce determination when the Crusaders captured their first Invitational meet victory at the Park City Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3.
While four high schools were represented at the meet, two (Lauralton and Bridgeport Central) accounted for the majority of the runners. Nonetheless, the Lauralton girls pressed hard to secure the top 7 positions out of the field of 21, finishing with a perfect 15-50 score.
The three-loop, 4,500-meter course at Bridgeport’s Beardsley Park is spectator friendly and notable for its lengthy, uphill section that runners must conquer not once, not twice, but three times. Always up for a challenge, Lauralton’s co-captain Lily Reed, a senior from Stratford, said, “It was such a great course. Probably my favorite so far.”
“This win is symbolically very important to us, as Lauralton looks to build a competitive team for the future,” said Lauralton head coach Kim Driscoll. “The girls have been working hard this season. I am extremely proud of their effort on Saturday and see this as a sign of much more to come.”
