Clay Callahan earns All-Rookie honors

Plymouth State University wrestler Clay Callahan out of Foran High has been recognized for his outstanding season with a postseason honor from the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA).

Callahan was the NEWA All-Rookie team selection at 165 pounds. The postseason awards are voted on a committee of five NEWA coaches nominated by their peers.

Callahan enjoyed a strong rookie season for the Panthers, posting a 16-10 overall record. He captured his bracket at the North Atlantic Championships at the University of New Hampshire and placed fourth at the Ted Reese Invitational at the University of Southern Maine.

Callahan posted two wins in the NCAA Regionals between losses to top-seeded wrestlers.

Plymouth State finished with a 6-10 overall record, under first-year head coach Ryan Schieding. The Panthers placed 11th at the New England Dual Meet Championships and tied for 16th at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
