Christian Malave Baseball Player of the Week

Herkimer Generals baseball player Christian Malave of Milford was named NJCAA DIII National Baseball Player of the Week.

Malave, a liberal arts & sciences: general studies major at Herkimer, helped the Generals score 56 runs last week, outscoring opponents by 33 runs.

The first baseman, who starred at Foran High, drove in 10 runs with one double and two home runs. He leads the team with four home runs in 43 at-bats. The freshman also scored six runs, going 10-for-13 at the plate giving him a .769 batting average.

“Christian is a talented player, and a welcomed edition to our team,” said head baseball coach Jason Rathbun. “He’s exceeded our expectations thus far, and we look forward in watching him develop to be a better player for us these next two seasons.”

Herkimer College is a unit of the State University of New York, located in Herkimer, N.Y. about 20 miles east of Utica, N.Y.

Herkimer is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 53 national championships, 103 Region III titles, 145 Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference championships and 30 National Academic Team of the Year awards.
