Foran High placed 10th in the Southern Connecticut Conference cheerleading championship at Shelton High on Saturday.

Foran scored 65.7 points. Shelton, for the 12th year in a row, won the competition. Shelton scored 87.8 and North Haven had 86.6.

“They work hard all year to obtain the skills in order to have a high-difficulty performance and you try to cram in as many stunts, and as much tumbling and dance in the 2 minutes and 30 seconds as you can,” Foran coach Jennifer Bier said.

This was the team’s first competition of the winter. There are some local events leading up to the state championship in early March.

“They’ve been working extremely hard the past two weeks with their run-throughs and they did a great job,” Bier said.

The practice time adds up going back to the summer. The team executed pyramids, twists, tumbles, inversions, and other moves, as well as dance.

“I think there’s room for improvement and we already have ideas to make things better in our next competition,” Foran captain Grace Laychak said.
