Boys soccer: Lawmen win, to host tourney game
The Jonathan Law boys soccer team ended its regular season on a high note, defeating Bassick High 2-1 on Monday afternoon.
Law opened the scoring in first eight minutes when Kevin Linn scored off a feed from Will Contaxis.
Contaxis added the second goal for coach Mike Gruber’s squad in the 22nd minute, when he got a feed from Mark Germanese and buried the ball into the back of the net.
Bassick continued to play hard and scored with a minute left in the first half when Juan Osorio beat Law goalkeeper Jack Pincus Coyle.
In the second half, each team had good opportunities, but neither could finish against two good goalkeepers.
Pincus Coyle had eight saves for Law and Gustavo Pablono had eight for Bassick.
Law finishes the regular season with its best record in over 15 years at 9-7.
They will host a home game in the state tournament Nov. 7.
The opponent will be determined Friday afternoon.
Bassick drop to 9-4-2.
