Boys soccer: Lawmen rally back to tie Spartans

Jonathan Law’s Jucar Lopes scored off a rebound to tie the game and the Lawmen played Amity Regional to a 1-1 draw in an SCC boys soccer match in Milford on Monday.

Kevin Linn took a free kick over the top of the Spartan defense, and in front of Amity keeper Matt D’Onofrio.

Linn somehow got off a semi-bicycle kick from a difficult angle that D’Onofrio deflected to his left.

Lopes was there to knock the ball home six minutes into the second half.

Amity’s Thomas Kanter got free behind the Law defense and scored off the breakaway at the 24:13 mark to put his team in front.

“There keeper (D’Onofrio) was phenomenal,” Law coach Mike Gruber said. “Jack (Pincus Doyle) made a couple of key saves today for us, two in the eighth minute.

“It was a great game to watch. It was played back and forth in the midfield. Each team performed well. A draw was a fair result.”

The Lawmen improved to 4-6-2 and need three points in their last four games to qualify for the state tournament.

Amity is now 5-4-4.

Law will visit Branford High Wednesday at 6:30.

Sheehan will visit Law Field Friday at 5 p.m.
