Boys soccer: Lawmen closing in on playoff berth

Jonathan Law defeated visiting Sheehan High, 4-2, in a key SCC boys soccer game on Friday afternoon.

Kevin Linn recorded a hat trick for coach Mike Gruber’s Lawmen, who improved to 5-7-2. Sheehan stands at 5-7-2.

Law, needing one more point to make states, plays at Foran High on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. East Haven visits Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m.

Linn opened up the scoring in the 18th minute by beating two defenders and slotting it past the keeper Nick Trivino for his 11th goal of the season.

Sheehan quickly responded with a beautiful cross by Andrew Caplan that found the head of Jason Umbehr, who headed the ball past Jack Pincus Coyle to tie the game up at one.

Dennis Sweeney then played a through ball to Linn, who tallied his second of the game by beating Trivino far post.

Linn then finished off his hat trick by getting an assist from Kris Gjuraj in the 30th minute .

In the second half, Law’s John Vitale scored his second goal of the year off a beautiful assist by Gjuraj.

Sheehan was awarded a penalty kick in the 67th minute and Richie Dominguez buried it.

Pincus Coyle had 12 saves for Law. Trivino had 8 for Sheehan.

It was Senior Night and Jucar Lopes, Zack Anderson, Dennis Sweeney, Manar Almidani, Samuel Maddela and Hosan Mobrah played key roles in the victory.
