For the second year in a row, Foran High’s Leandro Jorge scored a hat trick against East Haven, as the Lions defeated the Yellow Jackets, 4-0, Saturday night at the Vito DeVito Sports Complex.

Foran held a 17-9 margin in shots in the season’s opener for both Southern Connecticut Conference schools.

“I told my teammates I wanted to do it again and it was nice to be able to accomplish it,” said Jorge, a four-year starter. ”We felt confident coming in that we could beat them. We weren’t going to take them lightly. They have some very good players.”

Jorge, who teams up nicely in the middle with fellow senior Cedric Lingane, got his first goal at the 27:19 mark of the opening half after we moved the ball down the right side and released a shot that beat goalie Conor Koziatek just inside the far post.

Jorge teamed up with Lingane a little over 12 minutes into the second half, taking a pass through the middle before cutting right and scoring on another low shot.

Ryan Young made it 3-0 with 6:43 left on a semi-breakaway and Jorge closed out his night of scoring in a match played throughout by intermittent rain, with1:22 remaining as he weaved his way down the pitch and placed the ball past Koziatek.

“We trained very hard during the pre-season with a good group of friendlies against Bethel, Wilton, Trumbull and New Milford,” said Lions’ head coach Rick DiStefano. “All of that work seemed to come out tonight. We moved the ball well and we were technically sound.”

DiStefano also liked the play of his center backs, where three seniors start (Dan Izzo, Kyle Greenspan and Patrick LaPenna) along with a freshman (Caleb Tondora).

“You’d never think that Caleb is a freshman by the way he plays,”DiStefano said.
Foran goalie Evan Miller, a sophomore, made eight saves to record the shut out.
