Boys soccer: Barlow knocks out Foran Lions

A strong offensive performance in the second half helped propel the Joel Barlow High boys soccer team to a 4-0 win over Foran High in the first round of the state Class L tournament on Tuesday.

No. 13 Barlow (7-4-5) will play at No. 4 Harding High (10-3-2) in the second round on Thursday.

Coach Rick DiStefano's 20th-seeded Lions finished at 5-7-5.

Barlow went ahead to stay 11 minutes into the game on a goal by Grayson DiMiceli, who was recently back in the lineup after recovering from injuries. Pablo Correa-Ramirez assisted.

Despite having a number of other chances later in the half the Falcons did not connect again until early in the second half.

Less than six minutes later, Jack Warren's cross found DiMiceli at the far post and the latter picked up his second goal.

Correa-Ramirez iced the game at 28:35, with the assist going to Jack Warren.

Barlow had a 17-3 advantage in shots.

Jackson Stalowir made three saves in goal for Barlow for the shutout.

Connor Lynch made 13 saves for the Lions.
