Scoring the game’s final four goals, all in the fourth quarter, the Stratford High boys lacrosse team defeated Foran High, 12-6, on Wednesday night at Penders Field.

In doing so, coach Dave Cochran’s Red Devils gained a 2-1 lead in the series, which dates back to 2014.

The Red Devils got goals from Eric Redgate, Eric Mackowski (his fourth of the game), Colonel Francis and Jon DeFrancesco, all within a span of a little over four minutes to bring their season’s record to 4-3.

After falling behind 9-4 with a little over three minutes remaining in the third quarter, Foran, now 3-2, rallied with goals from Lance DiNatale and Ryan Manning to trim Stratford’s lead to 9-6.

Joining Mackowski in multiple-digit goal scoring were DeFrancesco (three goals), Redgate (two goals along with three assists) and Francis (two goals).

DiNatale had two goals for Foran while Steven Lynch had a goal and two assists.

Stratford outshot Foran, 36-31.

Austin Jennings had nine saves for the Lions while Dan Cox made 16 for Stratford and also picked up an assist.

“We played well in both ends of the field tonight,” said Cochran. “Dan (Cox) was outstanding in goal while our offense worked the ball well and got most of the ground balls.”
