Boys hockey: Milford rallies twice; falls 7-3

The Milford co-op boys hockey team battled back twice to even the score during the first two periods before surrendering the final four goals in a 7-3 loss to the Norwich Free Academy- St. Bernard- Bacon Academy- Stonington- Lyman Red Hawks at Milford Ice Pavilion on Saturday.

The Indians slipped to 4-7-1 and the Red Hawks improved to 5-6.

Trailing 3-1 in the second period, the Indians evened the score with a pair of net-finders just 55 seconds apart. Joe Stacey scored off assists from Nash Ericson and Jake Burwell 4:44 into the middle stanza. Brandon Argyros knotted the game at 3-3 when he fought off a defender as he crossed the blue line, then lit the lamp with an unassisted tally.

Milford goaltender Luke Alfano made several stops to keep the game tied, including a pair in succession during a penalty kill.

The Red Hawks struck 5:20 later when Bryan Guentes got behind the defense and scored on breakaway for one of his three goals.

After coming back like the way we did and giving up a quick goal like that — you just can't have that," Indians coach Sal Follo said. "We had a breakdown." The Red Hawks made it 5-3 just 13 seconds into the third period.  "It was catch-up hockey after that," Follo said.
