Boys golf: Jonathan Law seniors lead fine start
Jonathan Law has put together a 7-2 record this spring.
Law’s success can be credited for the most part to its three seniors — Ryan Mola, Zach Smith and Ryan Bedell.
“They have medaled (low score of the match) in eight of the nine matches,” said coach Andrew Koorejian of four-year starters Mola and Smith, and Bedell, a three-year starter. “Play from senior Anthony Lomax (a second-year starter) and sophomores Dom Pirulli and Joe Mester have been great.
“New to the team are senior Nick Hanna, sophomore Jack Arsenault, and freshman Anthony Fino.”
Highlights of the season saw the Lawmen defeating Lyman Hall 192-200 on April 4, where Ryan Mola medaled with a 42 at Orange Hill Country Club. On April 10, Law defeated Foran 172-192 at Orange Hills, where Zach Smith medaled with 40. On April 30, Ryan Bedell scored a team low score of 38 when Law was victorious over Hillhouse 169-216 at Alling Memorial Golf course. On May 1, the Lawmen lost to Guilford 165-168 at Orange Hills. It was Law's lowest team score of the season on their home course. Mola led the field with a season low score 2-over-par 37 and Bedell scored a 4-over-par 39.
“The Guilford match was a tough loss, but we played great,” Koorejian said. “I can't remember the last time we were that close with Guilford. I'll take those performances by our players anytime.
“While the team is smaller this year, I can't remember the last time when we had such depth with our senior players. All four are playing their best golf in their final season. I hope it continues.”
