Despite jumping out to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter, the Foran Lions could not regain that lead ultimately falling to the Branford Hornets, 64-53, on Friday.

Junior co-captains Jason Giambra and John Shannon led the Lions (4-16) with 19 and 18 points respectively, while Branford’s Kevin Baxter and Aidan Jacobson each scored 20 points.

Giambra got Foran on the board first in the second half with a layup. Tucker Jacobson answered with a three. Shannon then laid one in before Tucker Jacobson hit another three.

McVoy got in on the three-party with a three-point goal of his own. Giambra’s layup made it 35-34. Branford then went on a 9-4 run to end the third quarter, thanks to five points from Kevin Baxter and four from Aidan Jacobson.

Giambra struck first in the game’s final quarter, making it 44-40.

After a Cameron Mills layup, Richard Prosser hit two free throws. Baxter answered with a fade away jump shot to make it a six-point game. Giambra scored a layup to cut it to four.

Jacobson made a step-back to start a six-point run. Mills followed Jacobson with a layup and Jacobson hit two free throws to make it 54-44.

Shannon countered with a three, and then a four-point play, to get the Lions back in the game at 55-51.

The Hornets made 7-of-8 foul shots in the final minutes to seal the 64-53 victory.
