Foran High defeated Shelton High, 62-59, in an SCC game in the Edna Fraser Gym in Milford on Tuesday.

Coach Ian Kirkpatrick’s Lions (4-7) were led by in scoring by Michael Simonelli (16 points), John Shannon (15 points) and Jason Giambra (15 points).

“We showed a lot of fight tonight,” Kirkpatrick said. “I’m proud of the way my players came together down the stretch. We did not fold against their pressure and fortunately we were able to come away with a win.”

Foran went on top 14-6 after one quarter, but the Gaels (4-5) put together a 16-6 run to take a 22-20 lead into the half.

Foran owned the third period, 22-10, and then held off Shelton in the final stanza.

The Lions won the game at the foul line (16 for 23).

Giambra was 5-of-6 shooting from the stripe.

Richard Prosser scored nine points and was 7-of-10 from the line.

Shannon made three 3-pointers and Anthony Davis one.

Shelton was 13-for-25 from the stripe.

The Gaels’ Brian Berritto scored 23 points, Martin Dominguez 18 and Peri Basimakopoulos had 10.

Foran will visit Jonathan Law on Friday at 7.
