Baseball: Foran shuts out Law

Matt Alicki and T.J. Stuart combined on a five-hit shutout, as Foran High sank Jonathan Law, 3-0, at Ken Walker Field in an SCC Hammonasset Division matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

Alicki worked 6 1/3 innings, scattering five hits, striking out four and walking five, and retired Frank Mucciacciaro on a flyout to start the seventh. Rob Griswold then reached on a error, before Evan Carollo, Alicki's mound counterpart, and Mac Taylor drew walks to load the bases.

Foran head coach Garrett Walker brought Stuart on in relief, and the junior right-hander struck out Nick Glorioso and Jeremiah Bravo to nail down the save.

Overall, Law (2-8) left 11 runners on base, 10 over the final four innings, and saw its losing streak reach eight games. The Lawmen have not won since beating Foran, 14-5, on April 11.

Evan Carollo was solid on the mound in defeat, throwing a complete-game six-hitter for Law. The junior struck out seven and walked one, but R.J. Balado's two-out, two-strike RBI single in the bottom of the second inning was the only run Foran needed.

Mike Howell scored the run, after he was hit by a pitch and moved up to second on a ball in the dirt. Balado grounded a single through the right side to make it 1-0.

R.J. Jackson added a sacrifice fly and Mike Bevino an RBI double in the third, but Carollo allowed just two hits the rest of the way.

Law loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth, when Mucciacciaro singled to left and Griswold and Carollo drew walks. But, Alicki got Taylor to fly out to Josh Mixie in left to retire the side.

Law returns to action on Friday with a game at 3:45 p.m. at West Rock Park against Career Magnet (5-4). Foran, which improved to 4-6 and won its second game in a row, travels to Quigley Stadium to face Notre Dame of West Haven (7-4) on Friday at 4.
