The Foran High baseball team batted around in the sixth inning when coach Garrett Walker’s 32nd-seeded Lions upset No. 1 East Lyme by a score of 9-4 in a first round Class L state tournament road game on Tuesday.

Trailing 4-1 after five innings, Foran’s Mike Leson doubled home a run to start the scoring in the sixth.

The Lions saw two more runs cross the plate when Brett Huber’s hard grounder was misplayed.

Mark Wooten drove home Matt Kennedy with a sacrifice fly to take a 5-4 lead.

J.T. Lanese doubled home another run, followed by an RBI single by Kevin Lanese.

Foran finished the scoring in the sixth on a double steal.

The Lions added an unearned run in the seventh.

Nick Hartley got the start, going five innings and keeping Foran in the game.

Chris Goglia came in the sixth to record the win by pitching two scoreless innings.

East Lyme (18-3) took a 2-0 lead in the fourth.

Foran came back with a run in the fifth when Huber doubled and later scored on a pass ball.

The Vikings took 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on Matt Malcolm's home run.

Foran (8-13) will travel to Berlin High to face the 17th-seeded Redcoats (13-8) on Wednesday at 3:30.

Berlin advanced with a 5-2 win over 16th-seeded East Haven.
