Baseball: Foran Lions score twice in seventh to make states

Bryan Firmender tripled in the tying run and Bailey Wheeler plated him with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, when coach Garrett Walker’s Foran High baseball team qualified for the state tournament with a 3-2 victory over Cheshire High at Ken Walker Field on Wednesday.

The Lions are now 8-10. Cheshire is 13-6.

Brett Huber reached base and scored on Firmender’s clutch triple, Foran’s seventh hit.

Nick Hartley earned his third win in relief of Drew Corsi. The duo allowed the Rams eight hits.

Cheshire scored a run in the first and the seventh.

Foran tallied its first run in the fifth inning.
