The Milford American Legion Post 196 baseball team got a much-needed victory on Wednesday night, defeating Orange Post 127, 9-1, at Ken Walker Field.

After losing 10-0 to Post 127 on Tuesday night and making eight errors in the process, Post 196 put together an aggressive offensive game in the rematch.

“We needed a boost tonight and our kids came through,” said Post 196 coach Cliff Bugyi. “We certainly didn’t play well on Tuesday night making all those errors.”

Colin Firmender, Nick Tuozzola and Brian Wydra each had two hits, while Wydra drove in three runs and Firmender and Tuozzola each two RBIs each.

Starting and winning pitcher Tom Marchitto went the distance in his first start. He allowed six hits, struck out two and walked three.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Milford rebounded for two runs in the second. Post 196 added three more in the third and then scored two each in the fifth and sixth innings.

The win brought Post 196’s record to 6-8, while Orange dropped to 10-6.

Post 196 won’t play again until next Tuesday. The team will pick up three forfeit wins from Shelton, as the two teams would’ve met three times over the weekend.
