The Ridgefield Little League 12U All-Stars fell to Stamford North, 11-1, in the final pool-play game for both teams last Thursday at Stamford's Springdale Field. Ridgefield, which needed a victory to qualify for the championship playoff round, ended with a 1-2 record and finished fourth in Pool A. The All-Stars will host Stamford American tonight at 7 at Jensen Field in the first round of the double-elimination, consolation-bracket playoffs. In last Thursday's game, Stamford North went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the first and then added five more runs in the second to open a 7-0 lead after two innings. Ridgefield got one run back in the top of the third, but Stamford North matched that in the bottom of the inning and then scored three runs in the fourth to end the game early because of the run rule. Ridgefield's lone run was the result of a two-out rally in the top of the third inning. Nick Roman singled to center and went to second on Chris Keating's single. Following a Stamford North pitching change, Casey Gaughran singled to right field to score Roman. Those were the only three hits Ridgefield managed against Stamford North's two pitchers, who combined to strike out six batters. Keating also reached base on a walk. Five players had two or more hits for Stamford North, which went 2-1 in Pool A and finished second to Wilton (2-1) on a tiebreaker. Notes: Wilton, Stamford North, Weston, and Darien were the four teams that advanced to the championship round of the playoffs. Weston (3-0) and Darien (2-1) finished first and second, respectively, in Pool B.
