"They worked hard:" Foran upsets Sheehan in boys basketball

Foran, the No. 10 seed, upset No. 7 seeded Sheehan 69-62 in a first round SCC Division II boys’ basketball tournament game played in Wallingford on Thursday.

“I’m very proud of my players, they worked hard to get this win and I’m glad that we’re able to extend our season into the SCC tournament,” coach Ian Kirkpatrick said.

Foran (1-10) will visit No. 2 seed East Haven (6-4) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Foran took a 29-13 lead into the half then withstood a 28-13 third quarter by Sheehan.

Charlie Diamantis led Foran with 19 points. Trey Deitelbaum and Matteo Tonelli had 10 points each.

Jack McDonnell scored 32 points for Sheehan.
