SCSU rolls to first win of season

Jonmichael Bivona rushed for a career-best three touchdowns as the Southern Connecticut State football team rolled to a 55-27 victory over Franklin Pierce on Saturday in New Haven.

Bivona finished with 77 yards on 15 carries as the Owls (1-4) picked up their first victory of the season. Jordan Knight and Octovio Thomas each added a rushing touchdown.

In the air, quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky was 14-for-22 for 267 yards with two touchdown passes to Julian Chung, who finished with 131 yards receiving on five catches. Izaiah Sanders had seven catches for 117 yards.

Defensively, Matthew Weiss recorded two of the Owls’ four sacks and blocked a point-after attempt late in the game. Vance Upham had a sack and an interception and Kyle Armour picked off a ball in the Owls’ end zone to deny the Ravens (1-4) of an early scoring opportunity.

Southern’s 55 points were its most in a single game since a 61-0 win against Pace in 2011.
