Roundup: Law tops Foran in girls gymnastics meet

Law defeated Foran 133.05-116.65. Law’s Emma Nelly 34.15 won all-around followed by teammate Natalie Morrell 33.9 and Foran’s Ginger Schmidt 32.4. Nelly was first in vault 8.55, beam 8.7 and floor exercise 8.7. Morrell was first on bars 8.9, Nelly second 8.2 and Law’s Lexi Borecki and Schmidt tied for third at 8.0. Morrell and teammate Claire Moulton tied for second in vault 8.3. Morrell (8.4) was second and teammate Kenzie Powers (8.35) third on beam. Law’s Makenna Sharpe (8.5) was second and Morrell (8.3) third in floor exercise. Nelly tied for second on beam (8.3) and Sharpe was third in floor exercise (8.5) for Law when it lost 138.25-129.5 to Daniel Hand. Foran’s Riley Grunow tied for third on the vault with a score of 8.7 when the Lions (113.6) met unbeaten Trumbull (137.45) and Wilton (123.55).

Boys’ hockey

Milford Mariner Aiden Ragusa scored a goal in the first period before Lyman Hall took control to post a 7-1 boys’ hockey win. Connor Chirico had the assist for Milford. Max Howland made 55 saves. Jack Roberts scored three goals for Lyman Hall, 8-1-0.

Boys’ swim

Milford Coop was edged by Hamden 86-83. Logan McCorkle was first in the 500-freestyle with a time of 6:17.69. Neven Vidosevic, Jayden Cruz, Mason Turner and Logan Griffin won the 200-freestyle relay in 1:59.98. Evan Murphy took the 100-backstroke with a winning time of 1:23.97. Gerold Gutierrez captured the 100-breaststroke in 1:06.80. Mason Turner, McCorkle, Cruz and Gutierrez won the 400-freestyle relay in 4:14.19.

Foran boys’ basketball

Charlie Diamantis scored 19 points for Foran when a 6-5 West Haven team topped Foran, 80-50, in boys’ basketball. Joe Gaetano and AJ Edmond had eight points each for coach Ian Kirkpatrick’s 2-9 Lions. Brayden Young had seven points and Aiden Davis five.

Lauralton basketball

Catherine Bosse had 28 points and Madeline DiNatali added 17 to lead the Lauralton Hall basketball team to a 63-56 come-from-behind SCC win over visiting Cheshire. Lauralton Hall trailed 32-26 at halftime but outscored the Rams 20-11 in the third quarter for a 46-43 lead. Persephone Deeds had eight points, Maura Bosse six and Lila Pinho four.

Foran girls’ basketball

Freshman Ava Deitelbaum led Foran with 19 points while classmate Faith Doyle contributed 11 when Foran defeated Branford 45-40. Foran is 11-5.
