Roundup: Law’s Caden Simpson sixth at State Open indoor track

Caden Simpson from Jonathan Law placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds at the State Open indoor track championship.

Law boys’ basketball

Jonathan Law is seeded 13th and will visit No. 4 Branford tonight at 6 in the first round of the SCC playoffs. Law defeated Brookfield 52-33. John Neider scored 17 points as Law improved to 10-9. Brookfield is 8-10. Anthony Andriolas had 10 points, eight coming in the third period. Nolan McKenna-Hansen scored eight. Daniel Maxwell and Cam Upchurch each scored five points when Law took a 16-9 lead after one quarter. Lenny Ialeggio finished with five.

Foran boys’ basketball

Foran saw its playoff hopes dashed with a 58-49 loss to Sheehan. Brayden Young scored a game-high 14 points for Foran. Kyron Coviello and Jaidin Kapoor both scored 10 points for Sheehan, which used a 19-7 run in the final period to qualify for postseason play with the SCC win at Milford. Joe Gaetano scored 15 points and Charlie Diamantis 13 for the Lions (6-13).

Law girls’ basketball

Law was seeded ninth and lost 37-36 to No. 8 Sheehan in the first round of the SCC playoffs. Law lost a 43-42 road decision to New Britain. Shelby Green scored 20 points in the regular season finale for Law 12-8. Paige Jolley had 10 points and Mariyah Reid five. Law lost 63-22 to Daniel Hand (14-2). Reid scored eight, Jolley seven and Jenna Wasserman five.

Law girls’ gymnastics

Law swept all around with Natalie Morrell 34.35, Emma Nelly 33.3 and Kenzie Powers 30.8 when it posted a score of 130.75 to defeat South Windsor 114.85 and Hamden 107.5. Powers was first in vault (8.3), Morrell won bars (9.0) and beam (8.75) and Nelly took floor (8.6). MaKenna Sharpe was third in floor (8.1). Law (129.8) defeated Oxford (125.9) and Mercy (119). Nelly won all around. She was best in vault, beam, and floor exercise. Morrell was second on bars.

Foran girls’ basketball

No. 12 seed Foran lost 63-43 to No. 5 West Haven in the first round of the SCC playoffs. Faith Doyle and Ava Deitelbaum scored 10 points each in a 48-32 loss to 17-2 Hamden. Courtney Musante had six points for Foran, which finished the regular season 11-9. Hand, 16-2, defeated Foran 51-20. Doyle scored six, Sam Young five. Sacred Heart Academy, 15-1, topped the Lions 62-25. Doyle scored 11.

Lauralton basketball

Catherine Bosse scored 22 points in the Crusaders’ 50-33 win at Foran. Madeline DiNatali had nine and Maura Bosse scored six. Foran was led by Courtney Musante with 12 and Abby Sanwald with seven.

Foran girls’ gymnastics

Ginger Schmidt was first all around in a 116.6-108.95 win over Hamden. Riley Grunow was third all around. Schmidt was first beam and floor. Grunow won vault.
