Personal bests lead Lauralton track in loss to Mercy

Sophomore Kelly Jones came away with three first place victories when Lauralton fell 79-66 to Mercy in girls track on Tuesday.

Lauralton finished the regular season at 4-1.

Jones was on the winning 4x800 relay time, running anchor. She took first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:30,1. Jones was first in the 3200 with a time of 12:15. Both times were personal bests.

“Kate Baisley had a huge day. She took first in the 100 hurdles, improving her time to 17.0,” Lauralton coach Ellis Gill said. “For the 300 hurdles, her race came down to the wire, losing by only .1. Kate’s personal best time (48.9) broke the school record that was held since 2014.

“Sophomore Bria Colangelo took first place in the 100, running 13.7. She was third in the 200 with a (state qualifying) personal best time of 28.4.”

Freshman Katerina Koutouvides won the 400 in a personal best time of 63.56 that qualified her for states.

Freshman Emma Hoffman won the triple jump (30-5.5 feet). She took second in the 400 with a personal best time of 65.9.

Freshman Leni Wisniewski placed first in the long jump. Junior Catherine Welch was second.

Lauralton will travel next week to Hillhouse to compete in the SCC West Sectional Meet.
