Lauralton Hall placed third at the SCC Quinnipiac Division championships.

Sacred Heart Academy took first, Hamden second, Lauralton third, Mercy fourth, and West Haven fifth at the Guilford Fairgrounds on Saturday.

“We knew going into the race that we had a chance to possibly finish second but knew the race for third place would be very close,” coach Ellis Gill said. “It was in fact close, as we edged Mercy out by only two points. Eight girls competed well for us.”

Kelly Jones took second place overall out of 40, running a time of 20:05 for the three-mile course.

Senior Carys Cook took eighth overall, running 22:04.

Senior captain Maggie Willer finished ninth in 22:36.

Laurel Micholovich and senior captain Grace McCormack rounded out the top 5 for Lauralton, finishing 29th and 31st overall.

“It was an awesome day for a race, as it was cool, and the course was nice and flat. This was the first year the SCC ran this race and hopefully it will continue in the future,” Gill said.

Lauralton will run in the Neubauer Invitational at Sheehan High on Tuesday. The Crusaders will compete in the Wickham Park Invitational in Manchester on Saturday.
