Lauralton Hall finished 13th at the SCC track championships.

“It was a very successful day for the team. The girls really enjoyed themselves and many ran personal best times,” Lauralton coach Ellis Gill said after the meet in New Haven on Wednesday. “When you get to this late in the season and girls are still getting personal bests, there is not much more a coach can ask from their athletes.

“We had some sophomores who had some big days for the team,” Gill said. “Kelly Jones took home medals with personal best times in two events and broke a school record when she took third in the 3200 in 11:44.52. The old mark was 12:05. Kelly’s 5:24.28 in the 1600 was good for fifth. It was her first time running under 5:30 this season. She is seeded third for the Class M meet. Kate Baisley took fourth in the 100 hurdles. She came back later to take seventh in the 300 hurdles.

The 4x800 relay team placed fifth in 10:11

“It was the first event of the day. It was maybe the most exciting races of the entire day,” Gill said. “Kelly Jones, Lauren Baisley, Carys Cook and Katerina Koutouvides ran our third fastest time. Going into the race, there were about six or seven teams that had very similar times for this event. It lived up to the hype.”

Koutouvides and Emma Hoffman finished ninth and 10th in the 400.

“Carys Cook had a great day in the distance events, first by helping the 4x800 finish fifth. She came back to run a personal best in the 1600 in 5:56. She also ran the 3200, finishing in 13:11,” Gill said.

“It was great to take some medals home. The girls are excited to compete next week at Class M states in New Britain and see if we can advance anyone to the State Open meet.”
