Lauralton edges North Haven in SCC girls cross country

Lauralton Hall’s girls’ cross country team defeated North Haven 27-28 at Wharton Brook Park on Wednesday.

“It was one of the most exciting regular-season races I have ever seen in my coaching career,” Lauralton coach Ellis Gill said. “We took places 1, 2, 5, 9 and 10, while North Haven took 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8. It was a very competitive, enjoyable race to watch. There was a lot of back and forth in the middle pack, which made for an exciting finish.

“Kelly Jones was the first overall finisher on the day, running a time of 21:17 for us,” he added. Senior Carys Cook ran a huge personal best on the day, with a time of 21:29. This was her first time ever running under 22 minutes, which is a huge accomplishment.

“Senior captain Maggie Willer came in fifth, running 24:13 which was a nice time on a tough course. Snior captain Grace McCormack came in 10th and Isabella Thomas was 11th to round out our top five.”

Lauralton is 4-3 on the season and will travel to the Guilford Fairgrounds Saturday to compete for the SCC Quinnipiac Division title with Sacred Heart Academy, Mercy, Hamden and West Haven.
