Lauralton Hall finished a program-best fourth at the SCC Western Sectional meet at Bowen Field in New Haven.
“Since joining the SCC in 2014 our best finish at this meet was eighth place, scoring just over 30 points,” Lauralton coach Ellis Gill said. “It was a fantastic day for us. We scored 80 points to edge out Sacred Heart Academy by one point.”
East Haven (124) won the team title in the meet held on May 18. Mercy (110) was second and Wilbur Cross (89) third).
Lauralton’s 4x800m relay team set the stage for the improved placement when Kelly Jones, Lauren Baisley, Carys Cook and Katerina Koutouvides took first in the opening event of the meet.
“The girls ran a blazing 10:51.1, which was 12 seconds faster than its previous best,” Ellis said. “Our 4x8 is now seeded third in Class M.”
Jones earned 30 team points. Aside from being on the winning 4x8 relay, the sophomore won the 1600-meter run in 5:32 and the 3200 in 12:21.
Baisley brought home team points in her hurdle events, taking third in the 300 and fourth in the 110. “Kate broke 17 seconds for the first time in the 110 running a 16.54,” Gill said of his sophomore.
Sophomore Bria Colangleo finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.33), which qualified her for states. She was seventh in the 200 (28.6).
Freshman Emma Hoffman took third in the 400-meter dash with a state qualifying time of 64.9. Classmate Katerina Koutouvides took fourth.

Senior captain Kelly Dougherty placed sixth in the high jump.
The 4x400 relay was fifth.
