Julia Zapadka leads Lauralton track to victory

Lauralton track qualified multiple athletes for states in its 93-28 win over Career.

“Our senior captain Julia Zapadka won all three throwing events and had some very impressive personal records as well,” coach Ellis Gill said after Lauralton improved to 3-0. “She threw 24-5 in the shot put, and also 6-8 in the discus.”

Bria Colangelo, Leni Wisniewski, Emma Hoffman and Kate Baisley ran a 54.4 in the 4x100 relay to make states. Colangelo also won the 100 (14.2) and took third place in the 200 (29.8).

“Sophomore Kelly Jones took first and qualified for states in the 400 (62.8) with freshman Katerina Koutouvides taking second (65.6),” Gill said. “Both girls along with Emma Hoffman and Kate Baisley won the 4x400 qualifying for states in a time of 4:28.75.”

Junior distance runner Carys Cook came away with two first places on the day, winning the 1600 (6:07.2) and the 800 (2:46), as well as being on the winning 4x800m relay team.

Gill said: “It was great to get our other two relays qualified for states today. We have qualified all three relays and also girls in seven individual events.”
