Jonathan Law boys second at Class M championship

Jonathan Law placed second at the Class M boys’ indoor track championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Lyman Hall earned its first state title since 1995 with 44 points. Law was second with 42 and Ellington third with 35.

Coach Joe Beler’s Lawmen saw seven individuals finish in the top six.

Thomas Bretthauer was second in the 300-meter dash in 36.73 behind Michael Johnson of Lewis Mills’ 34.14. Aidan King took second with a pole vault of 11 feet. Liam Fedigan was third (4:25.88) in the 1600-meter run. Dimitri Barnes was third in the 55-meter dash in 6.7 seconds. Solomon Mercado was fourth with a shot put of 43-09.25. Jackson Warters placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.30). JT Nelly was fifth with a long jump of 19-02.

Law’s 4x200 relay of Gabe Garnett, Jackson Warters, Dimitri Barnes and Thomas Bretthauer were third (1:36.56).

The 1600-sprint medley relay team of Barnes, Jack Bretthauer, Warters and Lex Edwards placed seventh (4:03.75).

Fedigan was ninth in the 3200-meter run (10:35.80). Garnett placed 10th in the long jump (18-02.25). Jack Bretthauer was 12th in the 300 (40.54).

Foran’s Basit Iddriss took a close second in the 600-meter run.

In one of the closest races of the night, Jeremy Rivera of Prince Tech won the 600 in 1:25.43 and Iddriss was a close second in 1:25.48. Iddriss took the lead with two laps to go. But Rivera surged ahead in the final 50 meters as the runners finished side-by-side.

“The Prince Tech runner did a great job at the end of the race,” Iddriss said. “I took the lead with two laps to go hoping to push the pace and he stayed right with me. It was a great race and a great finish.”

David Grant-Eckhart, Joe DeFreitas, Nate Huebner and Iddriss took ninth in the 4x400 relay (3:44.50).

Damon Downs took 14th in the 600 (1:32.63).

Grey Kerrison, Grant-Eckhart, DeFreitas and Huebner were 17th in the 4x200 relay (1:42.56).

Class M girls

Law’s Caden Simpson took third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds. Sheehan won the team title. Weston was second. Law placed 20th and Foran was 23.

Ava Steigbiegel from Foran was fifth with a pole vault of 9-0 feet.

Law’s Sydney Simpson took ninth with a long jump of 15-01.

Foran’s Jillian Junga, Ava Jaquez-Munro, Arezoo Ghazagh and Maia Matula were 10th in the 4x200 relay in 1:56.29. Law’s Elly Van Waveren, Sydney Simpson, Demi Carrapico and Caden Simpson were 11th (1:57.07).

Junga was 19th in the 300-meter dash in 46.70. Law’s Lauren Davis was 24th (47.67).

Law’s Kalli Kinsman was 19th in the shot put at 26-08.

Aislinn Burns from Law was 23rd in the long jump at 13-07.75.
