“We’re getting a lot of contributions from our throwers, shot put, discus, javelin,” Foran boys’ track coach Pete Jambor said. “We are getting good results with our distance kids. We’re working to improve our sprints. Our captains compete in different events. It has worked out well with leadership.”
Nate Huebner, Basit Iddriss and Barry Held lead the Lions.
“Nate is doing well in the hurdles and is on our relay teams,” Jambor said. “Basit’s been my hybrid guy in different meets. He’s done the 200, the 800, even gone as high as the 3200. He is our anchor leg on the 4x400 relay. That flexibility helps. We were missing guys against West Haven. We needed a 200 guy and he won by five yards. Barry Held ‘s main event is the discus, but all our guys try all three throws. Joe DeFreitas has qualified for states in the 400. Basit, Joe, Nate and Jon Lahav have put up our best 4x400 relay time.”
AJ Edmond has been a surprise in the 100. In his first year running track, Edmond has qualified for states. Damon Downs is a miler and two-miler. Freshman Will Riedel has shown promise in the mile. Junior Anthony Small and sophomore Mason Hallstrom lead the hurdlers.
“We have some good jumpers,” Jambor said. “Xavier Douglas and David Grant-Eckhart been one two in long and triple jump. AJ Edmond has dabbled in the high jump and has cleared 5-4.
“Barry Held and another senior Ian Eisenman are doing well in discus and javelin,” he said. “Paul Goncalves is doing well in discus. Our top shot putter is Dan Thanas.”
