“Woodland folly” is not a frequently-used term, but a Colonial-style home in East Haddam brings that phrase back into use with the one that exists in its backyard. Located in the hamlet of Hadlyme, the 12 River Road home has a folly in its backyard, which is defined as “a nonessential building that often serves as a garden focal point or eye-catcher,” according to Flower Magazine.
The folly is just one part of the home’s nearly 9-acre property, which has been listed for $2.87 million. According to listing agent Colette Harron, the folly does not have electricity, but it could provide a setting for candlelit dinner parties during the summer months.
