Letter: Pat Libero on the decision to run for state senate
My family, like your families, deserve better than they have been getting from our state government. We are paying too high a price for decisions made by legislators who have been there too long, doing business the same old way.
I felt compelled to run for state senate because legislation, supported by career politicians, have put our state in crisis. I am confident that I can bring the kind of experience that will help get us moving in the right direction.
I currently serve on the West Haven Board of Education, where I also served as Board chairman. This has been a wonderful and valuable growth experience, as was my career as a teacher, vice principal and principal in the West Haven school system.
Like you, I have been influenced by many people in my life, especially my family. I learned much from my mom and dad, who were small business owners. They taught me how to work hard, properly manage an organization and treat people well. Examples of courage, optimism and perseverance came from my brothers and sisters. I have done my best to pass these life lessons to my own three children.
In order to make an optimistic future for our families, we must take steps to avoid never-ending budget crises that force rash, unplanned cuts to important programs including support for mental health, municipal aid and education.
We cannot continue to include wasteful and redundant spending in unrealistic budgets that spend more than we take in and over-tax our citizens. These poor decisions paint us as irresponsible and anti-business, eroding any confidence that our people and businesses have in their future here.
Legislation and policies supported by my opponent have helped to place us in this difficult position.
For those who know me, you know that I will give my all as your state senator. I will work diligently to improve state government and increase opportunities for all of our citizens in Connecticut. I ask for your vote on November 8th. We can get back on track and showcase what a great state we have.
