ANSONIA — A local store employee suffered a minor injury after being hit in the head during an armed robbery Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

Police received a call at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday about a reported armed robbery at the Wakelee Mart at 192 Wakelee Ave.

The suspects, armed with guns, went into the store and demanded the employee turn over all the money in the register, according to Lt. Patrick Lynch. The suspects made off with several hundred dollars, Lynch said.

“During the course of the robbery, one of the suspects struck the employee in the head,” Lynch said. “The employee suffered a minor injury and declined medical attention.”

Police described the suspects as Black men over 6 feet, one heavyset and the other more slender.

The suspect who was a more thin build was wearing all black and a black face mask.

After leaving the store, Lynch said, the suspects were last seen running down Pork Hollow Road, where they got into a silver-colored sport utility vehicle and fled the area.
