Rudolph J. Martaus, Sr., age 100, of Stratford, entered into eternal rest on July 8 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Stratford. He was born on December 26, 1912 in Bridgeport to the late Emery and Frances Simon Martaus. Rudy was predeceased by Gertrude Kowalski Martaus, his beloved wife of 61 years. He retired after 43 years from General Electric in Bridgeport. Rudy was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. James R.C. Church in Stratford. He particularly enjoyed spending time with family, Big Band Music and dancing, visiting his favorite restaurants, gardening and was a dedicated UCONN Huskies and NY Yankees fan. Rudy leaves to cherish his memory his children, Rudy J. Martaus, Jr. (Mike) and his wife Arlene of Milford and Barbara Martaus Pitt and her husband Fred, of Milford; grandsons, Fred Pitt III and his wife Kim of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Pitt of Milford; great-grandson, Michael Pitt, Jr. of Milford; sister-in-law: Laura Kowalski of Hillsboro, NH; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford. Internment will be private.
