Michael \u201cPoppi\u201d Mercaldo, 74 of Milford, and beloved husband to Karen Leckie Mercaldo of 53 years, entered into eternal rest on January 3, 2015 peacefully at his home. Born on February 8th, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Vincent and Florence Humphreys Mercaldo. Michael moved to Milford, CT in 1965 where he spent his remaining years. He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft after 32 years of service working in information technology, and later fulfilled a lifelong dream by authoring a book entitled \u201cThe Legend of Andrew and Christopher.\u201d His book details his experiences on Jamaica Bay and remembers Sister John from the order of the \u201cDaughters of Wisdom\u201d along with a heroic African American World War II veteran. He was a great man who will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by his loving children, Renee Mercaldo Allen (Art) of Clinton, CT, Thomas Mercaldo (Pam) of Milford, CT and Sally (Mercaldo) Reed (Lincoln) of Wallingford, CT. He was the loving grandfather of Morgan Allen, Kendal Reed, Sam Allen, Christopher Mercaldo, Shannon Reed, James Mercaldo and Molly Mercaldo. He is also survived by his sister Dolores (Mercaldo) Schueleter, and was predeceased by his sisters Valencia Freyer and Janet Schkolenko. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT, 06460.
