Donald Nettleton Porter, age 86, lifelong resident of Milford and a descendent of the early Milford settler, Samuel Burns, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Milford Hospital. Born in Milford on November 21, 1928, he was the son of the late Ceylon and Helen Porter. Don was employed by Fraser\u2019s Supermarket at the corner of High and Broad St., and prior to his retirement was an employee of the State of CT Department of Transportation, Milford Repair Garage. A charter member of the United Presbyterian Church serving as Financial Secretary for many years, Don was also an Elder, a Deacon and a member of the Choir. Having a passion for music, Don sang with the former Milford Chorale and VA Medical Chorus. He was a member of the Milford Senior Center singing with the Milford Senior Gospel Choir and the 3M Chorus on Friday mornings and chaplain of the Tuesday Afternoon Club. Don was also a volunteer at Milford Hospital, X-Ray Department patient transport and a member of the Artic Engine Co #1 Volunteer Fire Dept. He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews; Barbara Jettie of Milford, Richard Porter of Orange, Margaret (Peggy) Vitro of Milford, Mary Porter of Milford, Thomas Porter, Robert Porter and William Porter all of W. Haven Judy Field of Milford, Holly Grace of W. Haven, JoAnn Henningson of Shelton, Patricia Thibodeau of Carmel, NY, John Christiance of Waterbury and Paul Christiance of VT; many great nieces and nephews and his extended spiritual family at the United Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Anna Porter and Ester Christiance and his five brothers, Albert, Edward, William, Raymond and Robert Porter, his twin. A Memorial Service will be held at on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church, 109 Seaside Ave., Milford, CT. Burial will be private. Friends and family may call on Friday, December 19th from 5 to 8 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home.
