Alvin \u201cAl\u201d Gaines, formerly of Charleston, SC, Milford, CT and Tucson, AZ, passed into Heaven in Brooksville, FL on August 17, 2013. He was the husband of Donna (Testa) Gaines, the son of Anna Glenn Gaines and the late Murrel I. Gaines, the son-in-law of the late Nicholas C. and Ethel Testa. Alvin was a Navy veteran, having served as a Pharmacy Tech. during the Vietnam Era. After an Honorable Discharge, he worked at the two Veterans Hospitals in CT as a PT and then as a Letter Carrier in both Milford, CT and Charleston, SC, where he retired after 33 yrs. in Government Service, having received numerous awards and certificates during his those times. Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing, cribbage and sports, esp. baseball and softball with his children, Michael and Jennifer. He was the epitome of a Great Dad, loving Grandfather (PaPa) and devoted Husband. In addition to Donna he leaves behind his Son, Michael & Daughter-in-Law, Shirley, of Morgantown, WV, his Daughter, Jennifer, of New Albany, IN; Grandchildren: Cecelia & Cameron Hemingway, Eden Mae and Jackson Gaines. Siblings: Steven (and the late Barbara) Gaines, Suzanne (Charles) Reeves, Robert Gaines all of Tucson, Nicholas (Jean) Testa of Summerville, SC, Beth (Steve) Clinton-Brown of Naugatuck, CT, Timothy (Carmen) Testa of Bridgeport, CT, Laura (Lenny) Litvinoff of Milford, CT, Cathy (John) MacNevin of Clinton, CT, and the late Neil Testa. Alvin also leaves behind his Godson, Daniel Clinton & special friends Deborah Austin, Dennis & Phyllis Ray; his very special cousin, Jeffrey Girard who took part in Alvin\u2019s care; numerous Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. A Memorial Service will take place at Casas Adobe Congregational Church Chapel, 6801 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 am.
