Obituary: Michael (Mike) Dennehy, 55, of Milford

Michael (Mike) Dennehy, 55, of Milford, beloved husband of Lorraine (McMahon) Dennehy, passed away unexpectedly on April 22nd.

He was born on May 16, 1958 in New York City to the late Cornelius and Helen (Moran) Dennehy.

He was a graduate of Masuk High School in Monroe. A devoted father Mike was an active member of his community and dedicated to the youth of Milford and the American Postal Workers Union. Former President to both the Milford International Little League and Foran High School Booster Club, he was recognized repeatedly for his community involvement. He was a committed blood donor.

As a colon and liver cancer survivor, Mike was also active in participating and speaking in the Milford Relay for Life with his family and friends. He was recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and at the time of his death employed as the Vice President of the Greater Connecticut Area Local of the APWU.

After just five short years in the Union, he became President of his Area Local. He was appointed Director of the CT State APWU and was formerly the President of the Bridgeport Area Local APWU.

In addition, he also served as Vice President of the CT State AFL-CIO for several years and as the secretary for the Fairfield Labor Council for 22 years, and chaired many committees at the APWU National Conventions. He was an avid fan of the NY Football Giants, NY Mets, and the UConn basketball program.

He was predeceased by his good friend Rusty.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, their sons Michael and Ryan, and his sister Nancy (Darren) Johnson. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, many cousins, many nieces and nephews, two great nieces, a great nephew, his mother and father in law Bill and Marilyn Grady, and many loyal friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28th, at 11 a.m at St. Agnes Church (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH), 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Milford.  Friends and family may call from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27th, at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street in Milford, CT 06460.
