Obituary: Lillian Marie McLeod, 97, formerly of MIlford

Lillian Marie McLeod, beloved mother and grandmother, died at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody, MA on October 21, 2014. She was 97 years old.

Lillian was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 12, 1917, the daughter of David and Mary Clark.

She was the beloved sister of Irene Clark, Rita Lane and Veronica O’Brien, all of whom preceded her in death. Beloved mother of Maureen, Arthur and Elizabeth; mother-in-law of Thomas Conway, Ellen Winkler and Leonardo Brizuela Strauss; grandmother of Hannah and Sarah (Arthur and Ellen) and Isabel and Alessandra (Elizabeth and Leonardo); sister-in-law of Kenneth O’Brien and loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Lillian was raised in Brooklyn, NY and later moved to Milford CT after she married Arthur. They raised their three children in a loving home to which family and friends were always welcome.

She was employed for many years at Raybestos as a member of the accounting department. She later was an enthusiastic member of the staff at the Milford Senior Citizen’s Center, earning an outstanding staff leadership award in 1996. She retired in 2001, remaining at the Center as a full time volunteer.

In addition to her love of family and friends, she will be remembered most for her commitment to education and life-long learning. She especially loved to travel, journeying to South America, Europe and Asia and exploring the Western United States and Alaska. She loved to visit New York City, attending plays and museum exhibits with family and friends. Lillian moved to Massachusetts in 2003 where she enjoyed being close to her grandchildren.

She had many friends in Milford. Among those dearest to her were Irene Olson, Jackie Towle and Mary Baker, who frequently made the long journey to visit with her after she moved to Massachusetts.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday morning, November 15th from 10:00AM-12:00PM in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. A graveside service will be held at 12:15PM in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford.
