Jeanette B. Miller, age 90, beloved wife of the late John H. Miller Jr., surrounded by family, was peacefully taken home by the Lord on Monday March 17, 2014, at Milford Hospital.
Born in Stratford, CT., on August 4, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Matilda (Litke) Bortnick.
A graduate of Stratford High School, she volunteered for the USO during WWII and later volunteered for the Holy Name of Jesus Women’s Guild and the Milford Hospital Auxiliary.
Jeanette was a Girl Scout Leader and an active member of the SNET Pioneers Club, Anderson Lawns Assoc., Red Hat Society, and Milford Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughters; Barbara J. Smarz of Milford and Lorrie Miller DiGiovanni of Danbury, her son-in-law Ron Morse of Milford, her beloved grandchildren; Ron Morse (Margie), Tom Smarz Jr. (Michelle), Mathew Morse, Sandra Rodriguez (Richard) and Kristina Smarz and six great-grandchildren; Rebecca, Kaitlyn, Gwendolyn, Olivia, William, and Juliet.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Morse.
“Jeannie” loved Stratford where she was born and raised and Rivercliff where for a time, she lived with her mom and dad in the first Sear’s modular home built by her dad Frank, which was recently featured in the Milford Mirror. She was always ready to “go” and do something different. She loved traveling, making Sunday dinners and picnics, antiquing, dancing and painting, gardening and reading, playing cards and swimming. One of her favorite things was the water – whether it was the ocean, a lake, a river or a pool but, you could always find her at the beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 29, at 9:00 am directly in St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St. in Milford. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanette’s name to: Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 W. 34th St, Kansas City, MO 64111, K9’s for Wounded Warriors, 6701 S. Fort Hood St., Killeen, TX 76542 or, ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St. New York, N.Y. 10128-6804.
