Obituary: James Joseph Mabe, of Milford

James Joseph Mabe, of Milford, formerly of New Canaan, Avon, Westport, Norwalk, Stamford, South Windsor, Simsbury and Southport passed away peacefully at home Dec 4.

He was born in New York City to the late Mary Taylor Mabe and James Mabe.

He is survived by his daughter Mindy Mabe of Milford, his sister Elizabeth Mabe Kessler, of Florida, his brother Henry Mabe of Arizona, and his brother John Mabe of New York and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Gill Mabe on July 4, 2002, and his son, James Joseph Mabe Jr on April 22, 1963.

He was devoted husband to Barbara and devoted father to his late son James and his surviving daughter Mindy. He loved animals, especially dogs and enjoying spoiling Mindy’s Jack Russell Terrier, Sparky.

He ran for political office in New Canaan in 1979, in Avon in 1982, and in New Canaan in 2002. One of his first jobs was at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He went into the military underage making him one of the youngest WWII veterans in the country. He owned The Shavers World shaver shop in Stamford from July 1984 to March 2002.

Arrangements were handled by Cody White Funeral Home of Milford. A memorial service will be held at Milford Christian Church, 989 New Haven Avenue, Milford CT on Wednesday, Dec 17, at 6:30 p.m.
