Helen (Mattson) Peterson, 84, passed away peacefully in Milford Health Care Center on February 6th, 2014 with family at her side.
Born January 26, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Bror Mattson and the late Hanna (Svensson) Mattson.
She was married (later divorced) to Carl Peterson with whom she had her two children. Helen was a resident of Milford since 1967.
Helen worked 20+ years for the City of Milford’s Board of Education in the Food Services Department. She was an active member of the Milford Senior Center where she put in many hours of volunteer time helping the office staff daily, a task she truly enjoyed doing with people she enjoyed being around. She was honored as the 1997 Milford Senior of the Year for her many hours volunteering.
Helen loved singing with the Milford Senior Gospel Choir and was a past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church’s Choir. In her most recent years she spent her time enjoying her grandchildren and watching them grow and always giving a smile to those around her.
She was a lady to be admired for her strength, determination and loving and nurturing soul. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Helen leaves behind her two children: her daughter, Karen Dalby (husband, James) of Milford and her son, Raymond Peterson of St. Charles, Missouri. She also leaves behind her brother, Robert Mattson (wife, Judy) of Milford. She was a devoted Grandma to her three grandchildren; her “twin angels”, Kaitlyn and Jimmy Dalby of Milford and her grandson, Clayton Peterson of Swansea, Illinois.
