Dr John Cherniavsky, resident of Milford for 66 years and beloved dentist in Devon for 50 years, passed away on June 16th 2014. He was the beloved husband of Anne Marie Birchall.
Born in Invermere (Kingwood), West Virginia on Nov 24th, 1923, he was the son of the late Wasily Cherniavsky and Tekla Butator Cherniavsky.
He was graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1942. Attended Ohio University and University of New Hampshire, and subsequently was graduated from Tufts University with a D.M.D. degree in dentistry. He served in the U.S. Army in the Second World War and then again 1950-1952 in the Korean Conflict. He was a past president of the Milford Dental Society, a member of the Bridgeport Dental Society, Connecticut State Dental Association, and was inducted as a Fellow of the Association of General Dentists. He was past Treasurer of Psi Omega.
He has been a longtime member of the Milford Yacht Club and Racebrook Country Club. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, reading, and traveling all over the world.
In addition to his wife he is survived by six children, Dr. John Charles Cherniavsky and his wife Dr. Maria Zemankova of Arlington, VA, Lee Ann Olsen and her husband Earl Olsen of Higganum, CT, Sasha Cherniavsky of Ocean Grove, NJ, Mary Ellen Wilkins and her husband Timothy Wilkins of Woodbridge, CT, Robyn Marie Morandi-Cherniavsky of Francheville, France, Thomas Wesley Cherniavsky and his wife Kathleen Cherniavsky of Pound Ridge, NY; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The Cherniavsky family appreciates the many expressions of Love and Kindness during this time of sadness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 20th 2014 at 10:30 at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford CT 06460. Burial will immediately follow at Milford Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 19th, from 4-8 PM at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford CT 06460.
