Donald C. Beard, age 95, of Milford, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Milford Hospital.
He was born on November 8, 1918 in West Haven to the late Albertus N. and Minnie Hubbard Beard.
Before retiring, he was a local farmer and an active member of the community. He was a member of the former Indian River Grange where he served as treasurer for over 50 years, as well the New Haven County & Ct. State Granges. He recently received a certificate honoring him for 80 years of continuous membership. He also received recognition for donating over 100 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.
In his spare time, he could be found on his boat “Whiskers” with his beloved 1st mate.
Mr. Beard is survived by his loving wife, of 68 years, Phyllis J. Peck Beard, devoted children Marcia Eaton of Illinois, Douglas Beard (Teresa) of Tennessee, Nancy Youman (Leicester) of New York and Geoffrey Beard (Brenda) of Southbury, CT, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Eunice Bailey and son-in-law William Eaton.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 4 to 7pm with a Celebration of Life at 6pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. Interment will be private.
