To the Editor:

Milford lost one of its most spirited and loyal fans on this past April 30. Ron Dunphy had been enthusiastically attending and supporting Milford’s sports activities for the past 50 plus years. Ron attended countless professional and college games in his life, but the contests he enjoyed and excited him the most were the local teams fighting their absolute hardest for victory.

If you ever put on a uniform for Milford High, Foran, Law or Lauralton Hall over the past 50 years, chances are Ron was a spectator at many of your games. Through the years, most Little Leaguers, softballers, and pick up basketball players in town often heard Ron shouting words of encouragement from the sidelines.

Ron honed his own multi-sports talents on the playground of the old Fort Trumbull School back when you didn’t need AAU or comp teams to learn how to play at a high level. Milford was very fortunate to have such a passionate and dedicated sports fan wholeheartedly cheering our teams on.

We will miss the vocal and energetic way he helped motivate our players to keep up the teamwork and effort. We are truly grateful for all the love and support by Ron.

It is very gratifying to know he now has a much better view of all his beloved games and you can be certain he is convincing The Big Boss up there to root for the Milford teams.
